Residents of Irete community in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State have destroyed three homes of some suspected cult members in the area.
Worried by the menace of cultism in the community, which had resulted in the killings of three young men, including the recent killing of 23-year-old Decency Chibundu, the residents trooped out on Friday to protest the mayhem.
The protest caused gridlock on the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway as the embittered indigenes barricaded the road to express their anger over the upsurge in cult-related activities in the community.

It was gathered that there was a prolonged inter-cult war in the community, which had left some youths dead, while others were inflicted with various degrees of injuries.
A source in the community who preferred to be anonymous told our correspondent that some residents of the state had fled their homes owing to the cult clashes.
The police spokesperson in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said on the phone that he had yet to be briefed officially on the protest.
Enwerem, however, said he was aware that houses were destroyed in the community, adding that the criminal and investigative unit of the command was handling the matter.
